CCTV considered at park blighted by '˜obscene' graffiti

A pavilion and two new park benches were covered with ‘obscene’ graffiti, and rubbish strewn over the play area and cricket square over the Bank Holiday.

Police have pledged to step up patrols in the village after an increase in anti-social behaviour.

Coun Bob Free, vice-chairman of Billingborough Parish Council, said: “These were new, heavy duty benches that had cost a few hundred to put in. Whoever did this had picked up the benches and carried them over to the pavilion behind a hedge where they would have been out of sight.

“We believe around the same time, bins were emptied and rubbish strewn across the field and main street.

“These benches were installed as part of the improvements to the children’s play area where we have won a £7,000 grant to put in new play equipment.

“It now means putting in tax payers’ money to fix the damage.

“The next thing could be to look at putting in CCTV but we don’t really want to do that.

“We have reported this incident as criminal damage.”
