Celebrity guests at Wales High awards

CELEBRITY glamour came to Wales High School when a sporting star and a singing sensation attended its awards evening.

Katie Melua and her partner, former World Super Bike Champion and Wales High pupil James Toseland went along to celebrate the outstanding achievement across all years at the school.

More than 800 people attended the event including Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham Coun Shaun Wright and Lisa Wright and Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart.

The 2011 Public Examination Certificates were presented to last summer’s GCSE students – and many A-level students returned from university or employment to attended.

Headteacher John Day said: “It was yet another inspirational and uplifting evening. I was so proud to acknowledge the range of outstanding talent on display.”

“It is a credit to the whole school – and to our standing within the community – that hundreds of youngsters prioritised personal attendance on a Friday evening to receive their certificates, prizes and awards. It was a privilege to have the attendance of so many celebrity guests – which, of course, meant so much to our students.”
