Simon and Wendy Gundry will cycle through the town on Tuesday 28th May en route to raising vital funds to support the work of child development charity Compassion in Haiti.

Simon and Wendy, wearing their special eye-catching fund-raising jerseys, have mapped out the whole 2000km coastline of Haiti, but are cycling it following roads across areas of England and Wales instead.

They were particularly keen to cycle through the beautiful countryside of Nottinghamshire, so will be travelling through Worksop laster this month.

The couple have been sponsoring two children in Haiti through Compassion for the past year and were inspired to raise more funds after hearing of the desperate conditions which many Haitians, and particularly children, have been forced to endure since the 2010 earthquake.

“We were horrified to see so many people still living in tented accommodation,” said Simon.

“Ultimately, we hope the sponsorship raised through the cycle will give a healthy and happy start to many more of Haiti’s children.”

The money they raise will be used to construct the Anse-Rouge Child Survival Programme, northwest of Goniave, which will help pregnant mothers and young children.

Relatively modest sums of money will go a very long way in Haiti - for example 66p will buy a brick and £5, one bag of cement.
