COMMUNITY spirit shone through in Dinnington for the opening of a charity shop.

Volunteers and businesses have donated time and materials to ensure the Save the Children shop opened on Laughton Road.

In just three weeks the premises was totally transformed into a sparkling new charity shop.

Save The Children regional manager Julia Hall was overwhelmed by the support shown by the local community, especially when the premises flooded.

She said: “I got the keys and went in and we’d had a flood. All the ceiling was down because of it.”

“The people in Dinnington and around have been amazing.”

“Jhinook in Worksop gave us £180 to help. We had a floor donated and a plasterer. We also had 20 volunteers helping to paint.”

“From next to nothing we created a shop in three weeks.”

Julia added: “We are totally volunteer led so we are really unique. The shop is entirely volunteer led. We are always looking for lots and lots of help from local businesses.”

“We’re always looking for donations too.”

Anyone who would can spare a few hours a week and would like to volunteer, should pop along to the shop which is open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm.

Meanwhile Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is appealing for donations of good quality furniture for its new fundraising venutre.

The charity has recently opened a furniture shop at the Hellaby Industrial Estate.

Chief executive Sarah Champion said: “We know that good quality furniture items often become available when people move house or empty a property on behalf of a relative.”

“Donating them to us will help fund our work supporting families whose children have a shortened life expectancy.” “The furniture store is an exciting extension of our retail operation, which includes seven very popular shops selling a range of attractive new giftware and high quality second hand goods.”

The furniture shop on on 24th April on Sandbeck Way. To donate call Bluebell Wood on 01909 517360 to arrange for bulky items to be collected, or drop them off at the store during opening hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 10am-4.30pm.
