Charity left devastated after fourth burglary

A RIDING charity for disabled Retford children and adults has been left reeling after its premises were burgled for the FOURTH time in a year.

Thieves stole tools, two water troughs and bales of hay when they broke into the Riding for the Disabled Association, based at Northern Racing College, Doncaster, on Saturday 8th October.

Senior volunteer Sharon Revill said the charity is struggling after having £1,000-worth of equipment stolen in the past year.

“We all feel so devastated about this and just can’t understand why people are targeting a charity.”

“We are all volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort, and it’s really unfair that the children and adults have to suffer like this.”

The charity provides riding classes for around 60 children and adults with physical and learning disabilities across Notts and South Yorkshire.

Said Sharon: “Sometimes the children and adults lack confidence and won’t get on the horses but once they do it brings so much to their life.”

“This has really devastated us, and it means we’ll have to do even more fundraising to help buy new equipment and keep the service going.”

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police confirmed they were notified of the incident around 11.15am at the school on Great North Road, Rossington.

“Nobody has been arrested, but police are continuing with inquiries,” he said.

“Officers from the local safer neighbourhood team will be visiting the property to offer crime prevention advice and reassurance.”
