Cheese thief given fine

A CHEESE thief and father-to-be has found himself having to fork out for a fine after admitting to stealing £87-worth of dairy products.

Mark Nightingale, 29, of Lowtown View, Worksop, pleaded guilty to stealing £42-worth of Cathedral City Cheese from the Prospect branch of Sainsbury’s on 8th March. He also confessed to returning to steal a further nine blocks of the same cheese on 22nd March.

Nightingale claimed that he stole the cheese to sell on, in order to pay his electricity bills. The court heard how he was expecting a baby in nine weeks and was ‘desperate to get his life order’. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £42 compensation.
