Chief executive retires

Bassetlaw Council chief executive David Hunter retired on Tuesday after a 40-year career in local government.

David joined Bassetlaw in July 2004 as director of resources, becoming acting chief executive in September 2005 before landing the role permanently in October 2006.

Before joining the authority he held a number of senior financial and managerial posts in Surrey, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

During his time as chief executive, Bassetlaw has seen the delivery of a number of major projects including a new cinema, the building of the Retford Enterprise centre and the restoration of the Canch.

Bassetlaw Council leader Coun Simon Greaves said: “I’d like thank David for his hard work over the last eight years, where he has been responsible for managing the authority’s finances and resources in extremely challenging times.”

David Hunter added: “Over the last eight years the Authority has seen many changes, but I am grateful to have had the privilege of leading a workforce totally committed to improving services for the people of Bassetlaw.”
