Christmas gifts thief

AN UNEMPLOYED Dinnington man went on a shoplifting spree as he was desperate to buy Christmas presents.

Richard Keywood, 42, of Hunters Way tried on a £215 coat in Track and Trail in Bakewell before putting it into a bag on a child’s pushchair.

Staff told police after he left the store. His car was searched and the coat was found, Chesterfield magistrates heard.

“Several other items without receipts were also found, all from shops in Bakewell and Buxton. They were returned undamaged to the stores,” said Helen Griffiths, prosecuting.

Keywood told police he had serious debts. The family went for a walk in the Peaks and he stole items as gifts.

He admitted theft on 30th September. He was ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work, with £85 costs.
