Church is no longer Stumped over wooden creations

First there were dozens of miniature wooden mice, followed by a carved wooden tree featuring leaves, blackbirds and some mice.

The final chapter of the story, a wooden man and his dog sitting on a bench, appeared on Friday morning.

Angie Kisby, fabric manager at The Stump said: “I think it is lovely. It really captures your imagination.”

It all started on Wednesday, February 8, when wooden mice were found in the church by Angie.

The idea behind the man is to blame all the activities on him, absolving blame for the group which is made up of Colin Griggs, Jane Kay, Dereck Harvey and Iain Braid.

They are now starting work on their next project, a tribute piece to trawlermen who lost their lives and were captured by Germans during the First World War.

The group began in early Spring last year, carving in Witham Way Country Park.

Initially, the group made various carved signs and pieces to be placed in the park, working with professional carver Peter Tree.

The group then decided to make a wooden model of The Stump, which is currently in the park.

They will now be holding workshops in The Stump on Wednesday’s which visitors can come along to.
