Currently, BDC only sends 19 per cent of the waste we collect for recycling, putting the council in the bottom five of all local authority areas in England for recycling.

By 2020, the UK will be required to recycle 50 per cent of its waste – and councils will be fined for failing to meet their targets.

One option to improve recycling rates is to offer an extra fortnightly garden waste collection service that would run for approximately ten months of the year. There would be an annual charge for this service for those people who choose to use it.
The survey is available online at www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/recycling with paper copies available from The Misterton Centre.

The scheme will be more expensive to run in rural areas – so sign up to make sure there are enough ‘customers’ to warrant extending the service to villages.
