This month’s speaker was Linda Clark, proprietor of The Spotted Dog Flower Company. Linda lives at Catchwater Farm, Blyton where she grows British garden flowers in a polytunnel, as well as in her former vegetable garden and in a field. All her flowers are natives and she stressed that flowers should be picked early in the day before the sun is on them. Members were invited to choose a selection of flowers from the ones Linda had brought with her and display them in the unusual containers they had been requested to bring to the meeting. These then formed the entries for the monthly competition which was won by Helen Spilman with Pauline Alder and Lesley Bird in second and third places. Pauline also won the lucky draw and Shirley Bulmer the lottery. Helen Spilman, on behalf of the members, thanked Linda for an informative and enjoyable evening.

Members were reminded that the August meeting is the continuation of a walk around Gainsborough, led by local historian Paul Howitt-Cowan. The walk has been done in stages over several years and this time features Market Street and Church Street. It is essential that those wishing to go on the walk should contact any committee member at least a week before the meeting when further directions re parking and refreshments will be given.
