Discussions have been taking place between councils and the store on how to stop motorists turning right into Barnard Avenue. Signs are not clear – one on the left indicates motorists must turn left and go round the Barnard Avenue Atherton Way Roundabout, but the other indicates motorists might go straight across to the eastbound carriageway. Markings on the road surface are also worn, adding to the confusion for all but regular users. Brigg Town Council has discussed the issue several times in the past year without any real solution becoming apparent.

Residents have complained, but it appears it could be occasional visitors and newcomers who are making the mistake. North Lincolnshire Council is hoping Tesco will make a financial contribution to improvements at the junction and work with the council. Another traffic issue raised at the annual town meeting by residents was the difficulty of exiting Old Courts Car Park onto Barnard Avenue at busy times. Residents said vehicles were being held up for long periods because the lights do not allow enough time for cars to exit.

In 2015 a new method of operating the light settings was introduced to speed up traffic on Barnard Avenue and it was thought this may have resulted in the exit problems from Old Courts Car Park.
