Contingency fire crews battle blazes across Notts on Halloween

Contingency fire crews had a busy Halloween night dealing with incidents across Notts on Friday.

Fire Brigades Union (FBU) members went on strike at 6pm on Friday 31st October - leaving services depleted on Halloween and over the weekend.

Notts Fire and Rescue Service were called out four times in the first hour of the industrial action.

And by 10pm, the service had received 27 calls, with crews attending 13 minor incidents.

FBU members have walked out in a row over pay with the Government.

Chief fire officer, John Buckley, said: “It is regrettable that the on-going dispute between the FBU and the Government has not yet been resolved, which has been our wish for some time now. But, with the public’s help, let’s hope we can keep the number of incidents this weekend to a minimum and ensure a safe weekend for all.”

The strike will continue until 6pm on Tuesday 4th November.
