An application has been submitted to Boston Borough Council to convert the former County Hall annex on Church Close into '˜an arcade of small lettable retail units' and nine flats.

A design and access statement with the plans, registered with Boston Borough Council on January 21, 2016, state: “There are no large scale businesses in Boston in need of extensive office space.

“Local government has moved its jobs away, to alternative locations in the town and to Lincoln. The former office use is now redundant.

“Small traders in Boston are unable to meet the high rents and business rates of the existing High Street shop units in the Market Place/Bargate area.

“These often remain empty for months, once a business closes. However, small retail units, set in a serviced building and financially viable as ‘easy in/easy out’ lettings are affordable.”

It says the three upper floors – called the tower – will be ‘converted to nine flats, separately accessed via an existing staircase and served by the existing lift’.

The application, reference B/16/0045, has not yet been given a date on which it will be decided.
