Could Rasen skate park revamp be on the horizon?

The council also have said the middle portion of the park will remain and face repair work.

The Mail understands that demolition work began last Friday (March 24).

The town clerk said: “The two end sections of the skate park have been removed in the interests of health and safety.

“The town council had a duty to remove the unsafe sections for the wellbeing of the public.

“The middle section of the skate park will undergo some repairs and remain.

“The council wanted to ensure there was still some equipment in place for use.”

Last week in the Mail, Market Rasen’s mayor confirmed the town council is looking to replace the Mill Road skate park which is currently ‘beyond economic repair’.

Coun John Matthews said: “This park has two fundamental problems. It’s made of steel and with age it has rusted.

“The type of use it was designed for has changed - it’s not just skate boards but scooters and BMX bikes now.

“We are currently working hard to find funds to build a new facility.

“We are speaking with Sport England, have registered with Tesco for the Blue Token Community Scheme and are looking at other funding sources.”

The Market Rasen Mail has also spoken to some of the riders who featured in the paper earlier this month.

They claimed the park is like a ‘second home’ to them and has ‘shaped them into who they are today’.

Ash Appleyard, 16, said: “I’m very disappointed to see something that has been part of our life for so long be taken away from us so quickly.

“I am however very keen to see what the council has to offer and I really do hope they follow up with the new facility.

“I look forward to see where they take it from here.”

James Catterick, 21, said: “I can understand completely why they’ve taken down the roll in and the quarter pipe .

“They were dangerous.

“I’m also happy that they’ve left the jump box and repaired it so that there’s still something for people to ride while we wait for some plans and funding to come through to build a new park.”

Arran Lancaster, 17, said: “In all honesty, there was a safety issue which is pretty much undeniable.”
