West Lindsey District Council has announced it is investing £269,000 for improvements at the leisure centre on The Avenue.

Unused areas of the building will be refurbished and bought back into use to cater for the growing demand. Work started last week and is expected to be completed by October.

Chairman of the policy and resources committee at the council, Coun Tom Regis, said: “It is fantastic that the council has been able to invest the money into the leisure centre, which is a valuable community asset.”

“It provides a good range of quality facilities and activities at a low price. We hope the improvements will encourage more people in our community to use the facilities at our leisure centres. Don’t forget free parking is available at the venue.”

The number of people using the leisure centre in Gainsborough has gone up by 21 per cent since 2007 and it is continuing to rise. This has meant the gym and many of the fitness classes are at capacity, with more people wanting to join.

Reorganising parts of the building will make space for the new dance studio with sprung floors, which will be complemented with a new music system. The current dance studio will be refurbished and will become a spin studio including new spin bikes.

An additional heavy weights area will be provided, which will free up space in the gym for additional equipment. This will allow more people to access the facilities, helping them to keep fit.

Peter Smith, contract manager for the leisure centre, said: “Everyone Active are absolutely delighted to be at the forefront of this exciting leisure development.”

“The refurbished facilities and the excellent range of equipment accessible to the community will only serve to enhance their health and well being.”
