Council offers a service for commercial waste

The local authority was alerted to the waste which was fly-tipped at Carr Lane in Styrrup by a member of the public.

An investigation by the council’s environmental services team at the scene found delivery notes that linked the incident to a Doncaster-based company.

It is believed the contractor had disposed of the waste through an unauthorised waste carrier and therefore did not receive any documentation, said a spokesman for the council.

Under caution, the contractor admitted to not keeping Waste Transfer Notes.

As a result they were subsequently served with a Fixed Penalty Notice and fined a total of £200.

The environmental services team at the council is now in the process of finding the individual who dumped the waste.

Coun Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for environment and leisure at Bassetlaw Council, said the authority will continue to crackdown on fly tippers.

She said: “The actions of the contractor were irresponsible and he has clearly learnt not to distribute waste to unauthorised individuals who could fly-tip.”

“We will continue to crackdown on people who are breaking the law.”

“We are very grateful to the member of the public who came forward to report the incident.”

“Through everyone being observant and working together we can stamp out the activities of fly-tippers.”

The incident comes after a man was fined £50 for dumping bags of domestic waste outside Ranby prison.
