Councillors - they get younger all the time!

Gateford Park’s School Council made history as they became the first children ever to hold a meeting in Bassetlaw Council’s meeting chambers.

The children met local councillors and officers to find out how local government works.

They discussed issues affecting Worksop, learned how to use the microphones in the council chamber and even got a goodie bag.

The school’s local councillor Coun Bill Barker said the children were a credit to the school and the Worksop community.

Added headteacher Gareth Letton: “I am delighted that the School Council had this opportunity and would like to thank both Coun Barker and my staff for arranging the experience.”

“The children told me that they enjoyed finding out about how the district council works. I am sure we have a future Prime Minister (or two) among them!”
