Country pub helps keep air ambulance flying

A village pub has been taking fundraising to new heights .

Over the festive period, The Blacksmith’s Arms at Rothwell raised £850 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance with a prize draw.

“We originally were looking to raise two to three hundred pounds, but the community spirit has been so good, we raised £850, which just blew me away, I really wasn’t expecting that,” said landlord Simon Burnett.

“It has only been possible to raise this amount through the hard work of the staff and the generosity of our customers.

“We have also been very well supported by local businesses, who provided some great prizes for the event – thank you to everybody.”

“We chose the air ambulance as it is an amazing charity.

“Also because we are part of the Lincolnshire Bike Nights we know how important this service is.”

The money was handed over to Air Ambulance representatives Anne and Geoff Crawforth.

Charity continues to be a focus for the country pub.

They hope to raise more money for the air ambulance with upcoming bike nights, and for other charitable causes through its monthly quiz nights.

“The quizzes are held on the first Sunday of the month and we choose a different charity to support every time,” added Simon.

“Recently, these have included the parish church and the Cumbrian flood fund.”
