County council says it isn't the one holding up installation of new car park signs for Sleaford

North Kesteven District Council had blamed a hold-up with installation of signage directing motorists after being criticised for poor take-up of its new Grantham Road car park in Sleaford. But the county council is saying it is not to blame for the delay.

The £99,000 public car park was installed on the site of an old warehouse for commuters and shoppers to use and ease town centre congestion, but only it only took £32 in its first month and £522 last month.

Alan Gray, Economic Development Manager, had told The Standard: “We have already ordered new signage to be put up to let drivers coming into the town know that the car park is there. However, installation is out of the council’s hands as signage has to be put up by Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways department.”

Reacting to the accusations, Rowan Smith, area highways manager said: “We received a request from North Kesteven District Council in April to design and erect new signs for the new car park. These designs are ready and once NKDC have signed off the formal paperwork then the County Council will order the works and place the signs on site.”
