There has been a setback for a Louth-area couple who run a dog-grooming parlour at their home.

At a meeting on Thursday (May 12), East Lindsey councillors refused a retrospective application by Adrian and Maria Long to continue using the integral garage at their home - at Newbridge House, off Newbridge Lane, in Covenham St Mary - to operate the business.

The planning committee was split four-four, with one abstention, but chairman Coun Neil Cooper used his casting vote to refuse the scheme.

He was persuaded by the objection of a neighbour that her residential amenities were being compromised by fouling from the animals as they were being exercised, and noise from vehicular movements on the gravel approach to the parlour.

During the debate, there was some uncertainty whether hairs from the groomed dogs was bagged up and removed from site or whether it was scattered locally to be gathered and used as nest-lining material by Covenham’s songbirds.

The committee decision was reached despite the recommendation of planning case officer Lindsey Stuart that the application should be approved.
