Creswell: Residents urged to commemorate war heroes

The four-day event, which started this week on Thursday 11th September, is open for all to come visit until Sunday 14th. It has been organised by Creswell and Elmton Local History Group and the parish council.

On Friday 12th and Saturday 13th, there will be an exhibition on World War One and World War Two between 10.00-16.30 at the Creswell Social Centre.

In the evening on Saturday, there will be a ‘Blitz Dance’ organised by Elmton and Creswell Parish Council at the Social Centre, starting at 7.30pm. Entry is free and tickets are also available from the Social Centre.

A Flower Festival will run from Friday to Sunday at St Mary Magdalene Church, Elmton Road, Creswell, from 10.00-16.00.

And on Sunday there will be a concert by the Newstead Abbey Brass Band, also at St Mary Magdalene Church, Creswell, from 19.00. Tickets are £5 (£4 concessions) and available from the Social Centre or from Turner’s Shop on Elmton Road.

On 4th August hundreds of people in Worksop also paid their respects by attending ‘Lights Out’ in the Old Market Square.

The candle-lit vigil saw men, woman and children leave just one single candle or light burning until 11pm - the exact time World War One was declared.
