A TEENAGER drove off at speed, mounted the pavement and crossed a red light, after he was stopped by a police community support officer (PCSO) in Boston and asked to provide his details.

Prosecuting at Boston Magistrates Court, Kwok Wan said a PCSO saw Connor Benjamin Jackson, 19, of Alexandra Road, Grantham, in an Audi car in Norfolk Street and because he looked young and had 'L' plates displayed but no one accompanying him, he went to speak to him.

He said Jackson, who admitted dangerous driving, driving without a licence and failing to stop for a police officer, instead of pulling into the side of the road for the officer to speak to him, sped off, mounting the pavement and crossing a red light.

Mr Wan said Jackson had been banned from driving in 2017 for dangerous driving and had been ordered to take an extended test.

Mitigating, Damien Sabrino said Jackson had been learning to drive in the car but that at the last moment, an opportunity for a job interview had arisen and he had 'foolishly' decided to go for it.

He said he had not stopped for the police as he knew he had no licence.

The magistrates heard that Jackson had also been given a community order in May 2020 with rehabilitation days and unpaid work and he was working well on that order.

The magistrates sentenced Jackson to four weeks in custody, suspended for a year, for dangerous driving, together with an extra 12 rehabilitation days.

He was also ordered to pay £213 in court costs and charges and was banned from driving for two years and ordered to take an extended driving test at the end of the disqualification period.
