Boston murder trial delayed because of Coronavirus outbreak

The trial of a Boston man accused of murder has been delayed because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Cole Newark had been due to stand trial in front of a jury starting today at Lincoln Crown Court.

But no jury trials are currently being held at the court with all hearings currently taking place via telephone conferencing.

At a brief hearing this morning no new date was set for the trial and the case was adjourned for a mention hearing scheduled for 1 May. Newark was further remanded in custody.

Cole Newark,21, of Witham Bank West, Boston, has previously pleaded not guilty to the murder of Darren Birks on 9 May 2019.

Newark was originally accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to 40 year old Mr Birks following an alleged incident in Ingram Road, Boston on 29 April. But following the death of Mr Birks the charge he faced was changed to murder.
