BREAKING: Man convicted of brutal Boston street murder

A Boston man was today found guilty of murder after beating his victim with a knuckle duster in a horrific street attack.

Cole Newark, 22, of Witham Bank West, was convicted at Nottingham Crown Court a of murder and possession of an offensive weapon which was used during the attack, Lincolnshire Police said in a statement issued this morning.

Victim Darren Birks, 40, was badly beaten and placed in an induced coma in hospital after the attack on the evening of April 29 last year.

He died in hospital from his injuries on 9 May.

Newark, who entered a not guilty plea to murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter, is due to be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on 11th September

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Whiffen, leading the investigation, said: “This has been a very difficult time for the family of Mr Birks who sadly died following a brutal attack.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.”
