On Monday evening, it is understood bins and chairs were removed from the town’s football club and set alight on a nearby rugby field in what emergency services have described as ‘arson.’

Police and fire officers were at the scene yesterday (Tuesday).

Also on Monday evening, tomatoes and eggs were thrown at the ‘Card Shop’ in the Bull Ring.

This week’s events are the latest in a series of anti social behaviour incidents in the town which have led to several arrests and a number of Community Protection Notices being served.

A man was arrested last month after an assault on a police officer on the Centurion Park Estate.

Town councillor Alan Lockwood has demanded the issue is put on the agenda at next Tuesday’s Horncastle Town Council meeting.

Commenting on the latest trouble, Councillor Lockwood said: “Yet again, a lack of presence by the police and an unwillingness to crackdown hard on these anti-social elements has meant more fear and crime has been dealt on Horncastle.

“I intend to follow this up with the Police and ELDC as soon as practicable.”

Councillor Lockwood requested the council should invite Wolds Inspector Sarah Constantine to the meeting.

He added: “I do feel that we need to press the police now to step up patrols in the town and attempt to find the culprits before someone is hurt - which will happen.

“People are becoming afraid to go out in the evening due to the incidents and the fear of getting caught up in it - this is not how Horncastle should be. “
