Dean Leslie Watson was also banned from the roads for four years for his second driving with excess alcohol conviction.

It was about 9am on November 24 last year when the 25-year-old ditched a car in Mill Lane, Addlethorpe.

Paul Wood, prosecuting at Boston Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, said: "Police were called to a report of a Vauxhall Corsa which had founds its way into a ditch.

"A man was described as being nearby wearing only his underpants."

When officers arrived there was no sign of Watson but his driving licence was found in the car. Then someone matching Watson's state of undress was spotted near The Welcome Inn in Old Burgh Road, Skegness.

Police attended and Watson refused to give a breath test, becoming irate and having to be restrained before arrest. He later blew 135 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; the legal limit being 35.

The court heard that steel erector Watson, who pleaded guilty to drink-driving and failing to give a roadside breath test, received a 25-month ban in 2016 for the same offence.

Solicitor Carrie Simpson, mitigating, said her client had little recollection of events but knew he'd been to a party the previous night.

"He went home, went to bed and then went out again, which would explain why he was found in only his underwear," she added.

Watson, of Sea Lane, told a Probation officer that he was ashamed of his actions and had been "very careful" not to drink-drive after his previous conviction.

As well as the 48-month ban, he was sentenced to 12 weeks' custody, suspended for one year, and 200 hours' unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

There was no separate penalty for the roadside breath test offence but his licence will be endorsed.
