"The police gave chase. They saw the defendant throw an item into a hedge. Soon after he gave up and was detained."

Kamba had 38 wraps of class A drugs with a street value of £1,800 on him when he was arrested. He also had £619 cash, a set of scales and a small amount of cannabis.

Messages found on his mobile phone showed he had been dealing in drugs.

When he was interviewed by police Kamba said the cocaine was for his own use and he had the scales to ensure any drugs he bought were not underweight.

He claimed the money was cash he earned from working in a warehouse but checks carried out by police revealed no-one of his name had been employed there.

Kamba, 20, of Mortoft Road, Leicester, admitted two charges of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply. He also admitted possession of cannabis.

He was sent to a young offenders' institution for two years.

Judge John Pini QCtold him "It is quite obvious you were dealing in Class A drugs. Perhaps it was at the behest of others but you knew what you were doing

Mark Watson, in mitigation, said that Kamba was only 18 at the time and became involved in drug dealing after agreeing to help a friend who had got into debt with dealers.

Mr Watson said "It is clear that he was acting under a degree of direction from somebody else.

"He and his partner have had a child since this. He got a flat and he appears to have put his drug dealing behind him."
