Emergency services were called to a car that got stuck on Skegness beach - just days after the Coastguard put out a plea for people not to put frontline responders at risk.

Lincolnshire Police, HM Coastguard Skegness and HM Coastguard Wrangle were called to provide safety cover while a vehicle was being removed from the beach near Seaview car park yesterday (Sunday).

In a post on social media, HM Coastguard Sutton Bridge reminded people that only emergency services and council vehicles are allowed to drive onto beaches.

The Coastguard said: "At this time of the year the beaches aren’t lifeguarded, which is a double risk to you and emergency responders.

"Help us to help you. Stay off the sand!"

Later they urged parents to protect their families by following key safety advice to save lives this summer.

"Following the easing of nationwide lockdown restrictions in England and with children still off school, many more people are expected to visit the coast to exercise and take part in water-based activities.

"Last weekend alone HM Coastguard Rescue teams were called out 194 times in the UK to incidents including inflatables drifting offshore, crashed jet skis, people injured while out walking or cycling along the coast, paddle boarders, kayakers, windsurfers and kite surfers in difficulty and people cut off by the tide.

"While RNLI lifeboat crews and HM Coastguard are still on call ready to respond to emergencies, the message is still clear; we need the public to be aware of dangers and take responsibility for themselves and their loved ones.

Anyone seeing anyone in difficulty on the beach should call 999.
