Kristine Rendeniele of Wheeler Drive, who admitted the offence, had been helped by police after she was the victim of a domestic assault outside Boston Police Station in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Prosecuting, Jim Clare said she was 'very much in drink' and had to be held up by officers to stop her falling over, but she walked away and fell into the road, so they tried to help her but she became 'very aggressive'.

He said the officers put her into a police vehicle to take her home but when they got there and helped her out of the car, she punched PC Lauren Parker in the throat, causing her discomfort and pain.

In mitigation, Philippa Chatterton said Rendeniele had gone to a Christmas Eve party at a friend's home, but when she saw her former partner there, she drank more alcohol than normal.

She said Rendeniele, a single mother of two who usually worked nights to support herself, then decided she should go home and set off to walk, but her former partner followed her and asked her not to leave him and when she refused to go back to him, he assaulted her.

Ms Chatterton said Rendeniele had been 'very upset and very intoxicated' and was 'devastated' to hear she had reacted the way she had done to the police officer.

“She's clearly sorry and very upset,” she said.

She was fined £150 and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the officer and £85 in court costs and charges.
