Further 18 month ban for motorist who drove his van while disqualified

A BOSTON disqualified driver told magistrates that driving to take tools back to his workshop so they wouldn’t be left in the works van overnight, was ‘not the best decision’ he had made.

Matthew Barber, 43, of Sleaford Road admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance when he appeared before magistrates in the town.

Prosecuting, Marie Stace said police saw him driving the Citroen van at 5.30pm on November 12 on London Road, Kirton and he admitted he was disqualified but he had to take the tools back to the workshop a quarter of a mile away.

Ms Stace said Barber had been banned from driving for two years in August 2019.

Barber, who was not represented in court, said he employed three men but had to take the tools backhimself rather than leave them on site in the van.

“It was not the best decision I made,” he told the magistrates.

The magistrates told him it was a ‘serious matter’ to drive without insurance, particularly as the roads, especially in Lincolnshire, can be dangerous.

Barber was fined £660 and ordered to pay £151 in court costs and charges.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
