In recent months there have been reports around the county of suspected thieves trying to take dogs in the Long Sutton and Holbeach area, impersonating fish salesmen and even jumping out of a car and trying to grab a dog off its owner in the street.

On occasions suspected thieves are said to engage householders in conversation and then ask about their dogs before going and leaving a mark on the house to identify where to return.
