West Lindsey District Council is appealing for information after the set of brand-new rescue throwlines were damaged.

The council had invested in the new equipment in a bid to help keep people safe in the town.

The vandals damaged three cabinets, which contained the vital life-saving equipment and also stole the contents.

It is believed the incident happened on the evening of Tuesday, August 11.

The equipment was only installed on Friday, August 7.

Grant White, communities manager at West Lindsey District Council said: “It is deeply upsetting and frustrating that someone has decided to attack the recently installed rescue lifelines on Riverside Walk in Gainsborough.

“It is appalling that such vandalism has taken place as this equipment has been installed to save lives.

"Some people had questioned why we chose the new cabinet equipment to store the safety equipment – it was to protect it as in the past, life savers have also been taken and vandalised and we thought this would be a better solution.

"It appears this was not the case and we are now left with reduced equipment on the site.

“Images from our CCTV are currently being reviewed to try and identify the individuals responsible.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed people tampering with the rescue lifelines to contact us as soon as possible.”

The equipment will be replaced as soon as possible, and CCTV at the West Lindsey District Council’s offices will continue to actively monitor all the locations.
