Louth man sentenced after dispute with neighbour over television noise

Wayne Cooney, 52, of Blenheim Close, admitted threatening and insulting words and behaviour when he appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court on November 4.

Prosecuting, Marie Stace said Cooney’s next door neighbours, a man and a woman, were subjected to verbal threats, banging on their front door and swearing from him while they were in their own home at 8.40pm on September 8.

She said police also saw him swearing at them through their closed door.

She said Cooney was ‘in drink’ and was annoyed about a complaint made to the council about noise from his television.

Mitigating, Gordon Holt said Cooney had lived at his address for 48 years and was full time carer for his father.

He said his father was hard of hearing and so the television had to be turned up loud.

He said the couple next door had moved in around four years previously, and Cooney believed they took an instant dislike to him.

He said the complaints about his television had only started then, and there had never been any complaints from anyone else.

Mr Holt said that on this day Cooney had been drinking and then he received another letter from the council about noise and he went round to them but they didn’t answer so he banged on the door.

Cooney was fined £120 and ordered to pay £119 in court costs and charges.
