Low-tech lesson in staying safe online

Youngsters at a youth club near Skegness were joined by a member of Lincolnshire Police recently for a low-tech lesson in staying safe online.

To mark this year’s Safer Internet Day, PCSO Dee Phillips - part of the local policing team for Skegness - gave a talk to members of Winthorpe Youth Club.

The group, all aged between 11 and 13, were joined by a number of parents to learn about being aware of how to stay safe when using Facebook and other social media sites.

PCSO Phillips said: “I delivered the talk without using any technology at all to show the youngsters that we can communicate without a phone or a tablet!

“They were given various exercises to complete and we all had fun whilst getting the serious side of the message across”.

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team has strong links with the youth club and works with the young people on various community issues.

The children recently made posters reminding people to take their litter home and to clean up after their dogs.
