Prosecuting, Y Hue said the collision took place on August 3 and Mr Meakin died in hospital three days later on August 6.

Despite a request from the prosecution, which was not opposed by the defence, the magistrates refused to send the case to the crown court for trial but Mr Sharp selected a crown court trial himself, as is his right.

The case was adjourned until June 7 at Lincoln Crown Court and Mr Sharp was granted unconditional bail.
