Man arrested over using counterfeit £20 notes in Skegness

A 39-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly using counterfeit £20 notes in shops in Skegness town centre.

Police say they received multiple reports of a man attempting to use suspected fake £20 notes at businesses along Lumley Road and Grand Parade between January and February.

Officers arrested the man on Friday, February 27, on suspicion of knowingly using a counterfeit note. He was also arrested for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

During a search, officers reportedly found more suspected counterfeit £20 notes in the man’s possession. The notes were seized and have been sent to the National Crime Agency for verification.

Police also carried out a search at a property on Grosvenor Road, where they discovered items believed to have been used to make the counterfeit notes appear genuine.

A 56-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of having control of equipment intended to make counterfeit currency. He too has been released on bail.

Inquiries are ongoing.

Police are urging businesses and residents to remain vigilant and carefully check bank notes. Anyone who believes they have been given counterfeit money is advised to report it to police and visit the Bank of England website for guidance on spotting fake notes.
