Man attacked in overnight burglary at Mattu's shop in Market Rasen

A man in his 30s has been assaulted during a gang burglary at Mattu's Local convenience store in Union Street, Market Rasen.

The incident happened at 4.27am yesterday (Thursday, September 22).

Police say it appears offenders targeted the shop to get cigarettes - but it is not yet clear if they made off with anything.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “It is believed four men were involved in the offence and another man was also assaulted in this incident.”

The victim was taken to Lincoln County Hospital by ambulance – his injuries do not appear to be serious.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a dark coloured old style Vauxhall Astra around the time of the incident to get in touch.

Officers believe the start of its registration is similar to ‘YK0’.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 36 of September 22.
