David John Lowes, 50, of Cheales Close, Friskney, had admitted possession of the illegal weapon when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

The court was told he was searched by police officers who had been staking out the known drug area after he went into a cubicle in the Richmond Avenue toilets and the weapon was found in his bag.

Magistrates were told he had a previous conviction for possessing an offensive weapon in 2006.

Andrea Wilkes, in mitigation, said the magistrates did have the right not to impose an automatic prison sentence for a second conviction, if they felt it would be unjust to do so.

The magistrates agreed that because of the length of time since his previous conviction, they would impose a community order with 15 rehabilitation days.

He was also ordered to pay £180 in court costs and charges.
