Michael Thomas Hallam (44) also just had a provisional licence but was not supervised or displaying L plates when he was pulled, a court heard.

Boston Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday that he failed a roadside drug wipe and was arrested. In custody, he gave a blood sample which showed ten micrograms of a cannabis metabolite per litre of blood; the legal limit being two.

Hallam pleaded guilty to drug-driving, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence on Sleaford Road, Boston, on September 15 last year.

Solicitor Mike Alexander said in mitigation that his client was stopped on the way home from picking up food at McDonald’s.

“He has a very bad back problem and he treats the pain with cannabis. I expect the amount of cannabis in his system at any time is going to be quite high,” said Mr Alexander, who added that his client was a forklift driver and unlikely to lose his job.

Hallam, of Station Road, was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £403 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £40 victim surcharge. There was no separate penalty for the licence offence.
