A police spokesman said the man, in his 20s, was walking along Nag’s Head Passage at about 11pm on Friday July 2 when he was approached by two men.

“A physical altercation took place and the two men made off with the victim’s mobile phone. The victim was uninjured,” said the spokesman.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in this area at around the time the incident happened or saw any physical altercation in the passageway near the Nags Head (The Ivy) or surrounding area.

“If you can assist with our investigation, please call us on 101 and quote reference 21000372495.”

There have been numerous calls in the past to improve security on the passage, including appeals for funding for CCTV cameras by local police to deter anti-social behaviour and drug abuse.

Police launched an operation with increased patrols last year to try to overcome the issues in the vicinity of Nags Head Passage and the railway station.
