Man who sent threatening messages ordered to hand over knife collection

Police say they have taken action after an 18-year-old man from the Louth area was reported to have sent images and messages to a woman he knew online which were threatening in their nature and included images of knives.

As a result of the investigation, the man was informed the knives were illegal, was interviewed and issued a conditional caution.

He was told to pay for and taking part in an online course for cognitive intervention for victim awareness; surrender the weapons pictured in the messages, to be sent for destruction, which he did the same day, and he is not to contact the victim by any means.

PC Woodcock from Louth Response team said: "Knife crime remains a concern within our communities, and we are committed to addressing it responsibly.

"We encourage members of the public to familiarise themselves with the laws around possessing weapons, including within their own homes. If anyone is in possession of an illegal weapon, we urge them to use the amnesty bins available at police stations across Lincolnshire. This is a safe and anonymous way to help keep our communities secure."”

Members of the public can safely surrender and dispose of knives and any offensive weapons by using dedicated, secure surrender bins located at police stations. Items must be wrapped up and placed in a sealed bag or box.

They must not be carried openly at any time. The force says carrying bladed articles in public without a good reason or lawful authority is an offence.

Lincolnshire Police offer knife crime sessions in schools, and also have an immersive education centre, The Happening, based around serious violence. Schools and any education providers, including children’s homes, can get further information at [email protected].
