Mum was more than four times the limit

Tracey Maria Adams, now living at an address in Bolton, Lancashire, admitted driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after an accident, when she appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court.

Nick Todd, prosecuting, said that at 3.30pm on September 9, Adams’ car collided with a parked Ford Mondeo.

At the time of the collision, a woman was putting her own child into a parked Ford Modeo in Coleridge Court, Clinton Park. The child received a slight graze.

Adams failed to stop and drove on to the school, followed by a friend of the woman whose car she had struck.

Police were informed and Adams was arrested on the school premises and given a breath test, which showed a reading of 144 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Mitigating, Carrie Simpson said Adams’ relationship had broken down and she had started drinking alcohol as a ‘self medication’.

Ms Simpson said Adams had attempted suicide on four occasions and that she had caused herself kidney failure as a result.

She said she had now left the area and gone to live with her parents in Bolton and was voluntarily attending an 
alcohol treatment organisation.

Magistrates sentenced her to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year. She was banned from driving for three years, but was offered a drink drivers’ rehabilitation programme which would reduce the ban by a quarter. She must pay costs and charges of £315.
