Mystery of 'chewed' benches at Chapel St Leonards

Visitors to Chapel St Leonards this Christmas may not be able to sit down and enjoy the view after benches along the beach were vandalised.

Workmen say it looks like a dog has 'chewed' the corners as there is evidence of tooth marks and saliva - or someone has 'chipped at them with something sharp'.

About a dozen benches from the Pullover to the Point have been affected.

"We can't leave them as the splinters are a safety hazard. Some of the benches can be sanded down or may be turned but it all takes time and money." she said.

Anyone who knows anything about the vandalism should call police on 101.
