PCC Marc Jones secures extra funding for charities working with abuse victims

Almost £140,000 came from the Ministry of Justice as part of emergency funding made available to tackle an increase in domestic violence during the Covid-19 crisis.

In addition to the Government funding PCC Marc Jones also provided funds from proceeds of crime to top up the grants.

The money will help local charities provide services and support for victims of abuse.

They are:

• Victim Support - £23,600

• Rape Crisis - £45,500

• EDAN Lincs Domestic Abuse Service - £55,000

• South Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Service (SoLDAS) - £12,000

• Umbrella - £2,750

• Building Resilience In Communities (BRIC) - £3,750

• NW Counselling Hub - £11,000

The funding was made available for charities to help organisations meet the additional costs incurred whilst adapting their services during the pandemic, and to cope with increased demand.

Mr Jones said the funding awards were excellent news for the county and were important in supporting the crucial work of organisations involved in helping victims.

“The additional funding is very welcome and I’m delighted I’ve been able to top up the funding with money from proceeds of crime,” he said.

“The work these charities do in very difficult circumstances is amazing and makes a huge difference to many people and communities across the entire county.

“The lockdown has created some very real challenges in terms of providing crucial support and this extra money will help them overcome these barriers and continue their good work.”

The funding success is the latest in a series of steps taken by the PCC to tackle the issue of domestic abuse.

In 2017 the PCC secured a share of £1.4m for a ground-breaking project to support communities, friends and families to identify perpetrators so agencies can intervene at an early stage.

In 2018 the PCC jointly organised the county’s first ever Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Conference for professionals from children’s services, charities and policing to share information and knowledge in a bid to improve services for victims in the county.
