Police investigating a series of assaults in Gainsborough including possession of a machete

A group of teenagers were arrested after a night of disorder in Gainsborough which included an alleged sex assault and possession of a machete.

Lincolnshire Police are investigating a number of incidents which happened in Gainsborough on Tuesday, March 10.

The incidents involved a number of local teenagers at various locations including the skate park, Heapham Road, Tennyson Street, Tower Street, Carlisle Street and North Street.

Four teenagers, aged 15, 16, 16 and 18 years old, all from Gainsborough were arrested on suspicion of committing a number of offences including assault, racially aggravated assault, suspected of being in possession of an imitation firearm and a sexual assault.

They have all been released on police bail pending an investigation.

As part of the incident the police received information that a machete and a firearm had been seen.

A number of police were deployed including local officers, a dog handler, firearms officers and a police helicopter.

One person was hurt and taken to hospital with an injury to her face.

The latest crime figures show there were 83 recorded crimes in January in the Gainsborough Uphill area.

Of these there were 22 incidents of anti social behaviour, 30 violence and sexual offences, 13 criminal damage and arson, one shoplifting incident, one drugs incident, four incidents of vehicle crime, four incidents of public order and six incidents of theft.
