Mr Ross was at the game after Horncastle Town’s match was called off after four of their players tested positive for Covid-19.

A post on Town’s account stated: “Our first team manager has been bravely speaking out about the abhorrent situation he found himself in whilst simply watching a game of football.

“Racism cannot be tolerated. We shall not be silenced.”

On his own Twitter account, Mr Ross posted: “Went to watch a non-league football match today and got racially abused and was called a w**.”

“Nobody decided to do anything about it in and around me, even though there were witnesses.

“So, yeah, suppose just accept it. Police can’t do anything. People around you don’t do anything. Just accept it, yeah.”

Lincolnshire Police confirmed an investigation into the incident was ‘ongoing’.
