The police appeal said that, on Saturday April 3, there had been reports of several gravestones being ‘knocked over and damaged’ at the town’s cemetery.

However, in a statement this morning (April 12), a Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “We would like to retract the appeal as we have been informed that this was a genuine error rather than a criminal act.

“We would like to thank the public and the media for their support for the appeal.”
