Police step up patrols ahead of busy Christmas and New Year period

Extra police patrols will be rolled out across Lincolnshire as officers prepare for a busy festive period in town and city centres throughout Christmas and New Year.

Lincolnshire Police have confirmed they will be on duty around the clock, with additional officers deployed in key locations including Skegness, as bars, clubs and venues gear up for increased footfall over the holidays.

The force says the focus will be on preventing crime and disorder, keeping roads safe and ensuring residents and visitors alike can enjoy the festive season responsibly and without fear.

Chief Insp Gareth Boxall is coordinating policing in Lincoln city centre, with a particular focus on key dates including Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

He said there would be an increased police presence, supported by City of Lincoln Safety Wardens and Special Constabulary officers, working alongside partners including British Transport Police, Lincoln City Council, Lincoln BIG and Street Pastors to ensure people can enjoy nights out safely.

Across the east of the county, officers will also be patrolling key locations including Boston and Spalding.

Supt Fran Harrod said police would continue to work closely with community safety partners and licensed premises to support a safe festive season.

“Our communities should be able to celebrate Christmas and New Year in a safe environment,” she said. “Please enjoy yourselves — but do so responsibly and with respect for others.”

Police will also be raising awareness around spiking, working with Crimestoppers to highlight the signs to look out for and what to do if someone believes they or a friend has been targeted.

The dangers of alcohol-related violence will also be highlighted, including the powerful message of the One Punch Can Kill campaign, which reminds people that a single blow can have devastating and fatal consequences.

Road safety remains another priority, with zero tolerance for drink or drug driving. Police are continuing their December campaign with checkpoints across the county, urging people to plan safe journeys home.

Officers are also mindful that reports of domestic abuse can increase over the holiday period. Police are encouraging anyone affected to seek help and reassurance that support is available, with officers ready to respond and partner organisations offering confidential advice and specialist services.
