Police urge residents in Boston area to take care following rise in burglary reports
Police are urging residents in and around Boston to take extra care following a rise in burglaries being reported.
“In several cases, suspects appear to be targeting properties with key safes and those with insecure doors or windows,” Boston Police posted on its Facebook page on Friday.
It offered the following advice on home security:
• Always keep doors and windows locked, even when the home is occupied or only being left for a short time.

• Ensure locks are in good working order and consider upgrading them if necessary.
• Avoid leaving windows open at night or when rooms are unattended.
On key safes, the advice was:
• Ensure external key safes are police-approved and fitted securely.
• Change the access code regularly and avoid sharing it with those who do not need it.
On making a home less appealing to thieves, the advice was:
• Keep valuables out of sight from windows or doors.
• Use timer switches for lights if the home is unoccupied.
• Ensure side gates, sheds, and garages are locked and secure.
Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to report it as soon as possible to 101 (on online), or 999 in an emergency.
